Calling All Scouts Recap

The Scout Ride is always an adventure when Wanda is riding blind (without her RideCommand, that is) and Calling All Scouts III was no different!  Before rolling out with 17 bikes and 20 riders, Wanda shared her morning's crash course in Scout riding:

1) Remembering how to shift without a heel shifter

2) Hang onto that route sheet for dear life!

3) Boy these little bikes are fun!

And then led a "pipe-off" amongst the 4 Scouts.  It seemed to be a 3-way tie between Wanda, Kelly and Laramie (Jerry abstained due to stock pipes).

Once everyone could hear again, we headed off to Amish country to pick our way over to Mohican via scenic routes 241, 62, 520, 514, 205 and 97 with the Scouts leading the way.  After a couple route glitches (Wally Road is so nice, we rode it twice; no traffic should have been a clue that the road closure signs were real 😉) plus a WHOLE lotta poop from a WHOLE lotta buggies and a WHOLE lotta gravel from storms that had moved through the day before, we arrived at Buckeye Express Diner.  Thank you Brock for stepping up and correcting a wrong turn to get us there before we became the Donner party!

Thankfully, Tony at the Buckeye Express Diner had held our table for 20 for us.  No one was brave enough to tackle the Locomotive Buckeye Pounder, but no one went away hungry either; even the regular half-pound burgers are so large they're served with a fork and knife.  Buckeye Express Diner is definitely worth a return trip, but know that every order is made fresh when you order, so there is a bit of a wait.  Nobody seemed to mind, it just gave us more time to enjoy each other's company.

After lunch those that had time headed back the scenic route (including a detour around a car show in Shreve) to finish the ride with some well-earned ice cream at the DQ in Strasburg.  With the additions to the route, we ended up with 200 miles for the day, not bad for the Scouts!
