May Monthly Meeting

By Kevin Irwin

The May 1st chapter meeting started with banana nut bread baked by President Tom Johnson himself!  He brought plenty for the 19 members and officers who attended the meeting.

The meeting started with a discussion on Demo Days held on April 25th and 26th.  Over 115+ riders came out and test-drove the bikes provided.  Clay Cheney was happy with how things worked out,  the weather cooperated, and attendance was solid for a mid-week event!

Ride Schedule:

  • Our Kickoff Ride this year is on May 6th and is a parade past Mike Johnston’s home in Cuyhago Falls.   Mike was our former Safety Director who was severely injured returning home after a group ride in late 2021.   The Cuyahoga Falls police are providing an escort from a rallying point near Mike’s home.  As a group, we are not stopping at his home.  Lunch is at Mike’s Place restaurant in Kent.

  • For the Tappan Lake ride on 5/13 will have breakfast at the dealership before we leave.  We will change departure or KSU (kick stands up) to 1030am.   Mike Johnston and some of his family plan to join us for breakfast!

  • Ironton Overnighter on Memorial Weekend is all set, and we will have about six bikes.  If you want to go, you can still make a hotel reservation. Let Tom know if you are going.

  • The Buckeye Butt Buster is set for June 10th.  We currently have 14 bikes that will attempt to complete 1,000 miles in 24 hours.  Everyone planning to ride plan should attend the monthly meeting on June 5th.  We will plan on preparing all of the paperwork at that meeting.  The $100 fee will be collected as well.

Membership:

  • We welcomed new members Larami and Chris Ball to the meeting and group.  Larami rides a 2019 Scout and a 2022 Rogue.   Chris is enjoying his 2022 Roadmaster.

  • Congratulations to new members Jim and Beth Henderson on their 2023 Indian Pursuit.

  • Webmaster Kevin Irwin will get them on the email list and ensure they have access to the Members Only section of the website.

  • Membership Director Maria Weisgarber reported that Chapter t-shirts are being made and will be for sale at Bair’s Indian Motorcycle.  The colors will be black, red, and steel blue!

Charity:

  • We are very close to finalizing Paws Fur Life as our pet rescue.  They are based in Massillon, and Tom is finalizing the details.

The meeting ended promptly at 8 pm.  The next meeting is Monday, June 5th.
