Windy 9 Recap

By Tom Johnson, Chapter President

Friday:

This trip was one for the books, and I don't think the ones that went on it will EVER forget! The planning part did not take too long cause there were so many great roads that made it worth the ride.  We got started  Friday morning. A few riders got down there a little later for other reasons, but they all made it.  I took the group into Zanesville, and after lunch at a beautiful spot---Wendys---we started our way to Athens.  We made our way down the "Black Diamond Run." A few times, I had to do u-turns, but it comes with the nature of leading rides.  We got to our hotel,  but not before stopping at the local Harley Davidson shop and announcing who we were when we walked in---always have to make a statement somewhere.  We all met up for dinner in downtown Athens--and YES, all the college kids were back in town--at Jackie O's Public House, which was good! Everybody got something different from the menu, and it is a place I could go again.  After that, we all returned to our hotels and settled in for a big day......and it was a BIG day!!!

Saturday:

Everyone got up early, and I mean early!!!  Many of us went to GiGi's Country Kitchen. If you want a great down home country breakfast, it was SOOOO worth it.  There were a lot of Joe Burrow pics around.....I think he is famous from around there...music/singer/athlete....one of those! J/K BTW.  Then the journey began. Today's route would take us up and down the zipper, Zaleski's Zipper, to be precise.  But while we were on that route, we stopped at the Moonville Tunnel..some say it is haunted, and I say the road to get there is haunted.  Gravel road for a few miles until you get to the tunnel.  But it all adds to the journey on 2 wheels!!!  And what a great ride it was, so many curves, I thought the curves would never end. But everyone enjoyed them.  So we made our way over the river and through some woods to Point Pleasant, WV where the infamous Mothman Museum was and it was more than I expected.  If you've never read or heard about this story, Google it! It was an amazing little place and the story behind made it all worth the trip, absolutely would go again.  About 35 mins from there is a place I would have never thought about going to.....HillBilly HotDog in Lesage, WV.  The hype, what I read online and saw on a TV show was worth it all.  And they were busy, let me tell ya! It was so much fun to see it in person, there were no words to express it.  So, everyone had their fill of "weiners" so we all headed on back to Athens and end the day.

Sunday:

As all good things must come to a end, we had to head on home.  Got to Zanesville to grab some breakfast, some of the group split off, wished them all safe travels and some of us continued on up 93.  All the riders got home just about the same time or not far off and the journey was over just as fast as it started.

Conclusion:

What a wild, eventful, weekend getaway!!!!! We got everything you could imagine.  As President of this group, this might be my absolute favorite!!! We had such a great group of riders that made this trip something to talk about days.

Until the next adventure!!!!
